Costumes, games, color wars, pep rallies, football, dances…all of these things happening over one week is enough to drive anybody crazy, especially if you’ve never experienced a homecoming week before.

This year, Wauwatosa West has a whole bunch of new freshmen who don’t know how to navigate such an eventful week.

Freshman Bradley Nowacek admits to being “A little bit confused and apprehensive, because [he is] not totally familiar with what’s going on.”  

Homecoming week is probably the craziest week at Tosa West which is a wild way to get acquainted to a school.  French teacher, Amie Brooks, tells freshman to “plan your outfits out early and go on a trip to Goodwill in a different city.”  

But the freshman class shouldn’t stress out this week.

“Homecoming week is not that big of a deal.  Dress up if you want too, but there is no shame in looking like a fool,” said junior Mickayla Miller.

Junior David Rothfels adds that freshman should “go all out, but don’t try to be better than the upperclassmen.”

Thursday (color wars) might be the most action-packed day of them all.  Students all wear the colour for their grade, and try to “tag” younger students with their grade’s colour tape.

Clare Jennings, a junior, has some advice for all freshman with long hair this Thursday.  “Wear your hair up for color wars,”  she says “or else you will have to cut tape out of it like I had to do freshman year.”

Speaking of color wars, English teacher Stephanie Lueck wants all of the freshmen to “make sure you wear your proper color on color wars day.”

But the one thing to make sure that you do this week is to “have fun” says junior Claudia Simpson.
