Things to do Over Break

Article by Lyzi Torres

Winter break is nearing and just laying in bed all day is not exactly how most people want to spend it. Here are some ways to make a boring winter break into a memorable week.

If you’re trying to be productive and get all of your responsibilities out of the way then here’s a tip: make a list of everything you have to do do this week. Then complete as many things as possible if not all; this way you won’t have to stress about doing that essay for English while trying to relax. This is also a great thing to do because then the night before school starts you aren’t trying to finish day’s worth of homework in the span of 2 hours.

If the goal is to have a cozy night in then a good idea is to invite friends over to bake some treats. Bake some cookies, cupcakes, cake anything your tummy desires. If you are in the christmas spirit and want to make some cute instagram worthy treats just look on pinterest for inspiration. Make a night out of it, get some blankets, pillows, and put on your favorite movie. Junior Eileen Reetz said, “I love finding new movies to watch on Netflix.” You could also relive some childhood memories and attempt to build a fort. This is a great way to have a laugh and make some new memories.

When feeling a bit adventurous here is an idea: go on a walk. Google a trail near you, invite a friend or if the cause of the walk is to clear your mind then go solo. Maybe bring a camera so you can take some cool artsy photos. Also bring a pair of headphones so you can listen to music. Before you go, maybe make a playlist (or find a playlist) that has some chill songs by bands you’ve never heard off. Listening to new music can be an adventure all on its own. This is a great way to be active over break without having to go to the gym.

Another way to have an enjoyable winter break is to go ice skating. Freshman Caroline Weickardt said, “Going ice skating with a few of my friends is always a good time.” The Pettit National Ice Center is a fun and relatively inexpensive way to have a good time. Going ice skating is a good way to enjoy winter activities.

These are just a few ideas on how to spice up your winter break. Remember to be creative and have fun.
