Ending the year off with a bang, the Trojan Players are wrapping up their rehearsals of Legally Blonde the Musical. This show will open on the weekend of the 4th of April, and continue into the second weekend. In comparison to their fall production of Hadestown Teen Edition, this show is much larger and took more effort from the cast, crew, and pit alike.
With over a hundred kids involved in this production, about forty more than usual, they have come together from long Saturday rehearsals, and late nights to put on a long-awaited performance. The Trojan Players have worked hard to bring the color pink to life, as they are painting the stage, and many other props the same color. As the final weeks come to a close, many of the Trojan Players reflect on their performances.
“This show is in some aspects very different and very similar to past productions,” Said Charlie Hannan, a Tosa West Senior and president of the Trojan Players. “I would say out of everything we have done in my 4 years at West, Legally Blonde is most similar to 9 to 5 because of the overarching themes of sexism and stereotypes,”
After the successful 2001 movie of the same name, Legally Blonde the Musical appeared on Broadway in 2007. As one of the most popular musicals, it has appeared in schools across the country, and now it is Tosa West’s turn.
“I am most excited for people to see the whole “There! Right There!” number. Without spoiling it, I’ll say it’s a very comedic number, but also sort of a statement piece,” Said Hannan.
Auditions took place in early January, and now they are less than a month away from opening. With tickets now on sale, they are able to predict the crowds.
“The excitement for this show is real, and seats are filling up fast. We love seeing this level of energy from our community – it’s going to be an amazing crowd!” Said Adam Steffan, the Tosa West theater director.
Now, the actors are off the scripts, and working hard with the run crew to bring each scene to life. This takes a dedicated group of students, ones that are proud to be called Trojan Players.
“Expect everything – big performances, great music, a unique set and a whole lot of heart. Whether you’re a theatre super-fan or just looking for a fun night out, this show is a must-see!”
