Maria Sapida, East Staff Writer

How long have you been working in education?

This is my 14th year teaching!

Why did you go into teaching?

I liked working with kids when I was in high school, and I’ve always loved to read. So, [becoming an] English teacher made sense.

Why did you decide to teach English?

I had a wonderful high school English teacher, Mr. G, who made it so much fun.

What is one of the most memorable moments that you have encountered while teaching?

My favorite memories are getting to know the kiddos. I love when you all share your wonderful personalities and successes!

What are your passions/hobbies?

I love to explore new hobbies. Currently I’m into chess, writing, whittling, and always reading!

What is your favorite part about working at Tosa East so far?

Getting to bike to school! I live locally, so it’s been a blast to wave hello to students around The Village.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Northern Wisconsin. I’m big into camping, and there is so much to see right here in our state.

What was your dream career when you were a child?

Aerospace Engineer. But, oops, I’m not a math fanatic. English teacher was a close second.

If you won the lottery what would your first purchase be and why?

Nothing. I’d bank the loot and keep living my life.
