The Wauwatosa West Boys Tennis Team has had a great season so far with a record of 17-9. The team is the strongest it has ever been with a whopping number of 14 seniors. The boys one doubles team, Ben Wozniak and Jack Blumenthal have a current record of 16-9 and are hoping to make it to the 2025 state tournament.
This team has formed a tight bond after playing together for so many years and they are hoping to make their last season one to remember, especially with the amount of seniors that they have.
“This year we definitely have a special team with 14 of us being seniors. All of us have been playing together since freshman year, so the team chemistry is at an all time high. Our play has definitely been picking up going into the peak of the season, and everyone is feeling confident,” said senior doubles player, Ben Davis.
Last year, although the boys lineup changed quite frequently, Ben Wozniak played two doubles and Jack Blumenthal played 2 singles. This year the team decided to change some things up and put Wozniak and Blumenthal together to create the best one doubles team. The boys trained together all last summer and fall to get a feel for each other’s playing style and learn how to play as one.
“Our season has lived up to our expectations. Jack and I are confident going into the end of the season and we are looking to make a deep run at state,” said Wozniak.
Coach Kosta Zervas has been coaching both the boys and girls tennis teams as the head coach at Tosa West since 2008 but has decided to have the boys 2025 season be his last. He has had many lasting impacts on both teams and will be greatly missed.
“At the end of our conference schedule, we have a 16-9 record. We’re having a great season and we’re ready to compete at the conference tournament and the WIAA tournament series. I’m excited to see the results and hopefully get several players to the state tournament,” said Zervas.
With conference coming up on Tuesday, May 20th, the boys are quickly wrapping up their season and hoping to get a few more wins under their belts. The Greater Metro Conference Championship will be held at Brookfield East High School on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Although the boys secured a Woodlands Conference title in 2016, the boys have yet to earn a Greater Metro Conference Championship title.
“We’ve had a bunch of close matches in all of our conference and sectional opponents so hopefully when we play them again we hope to see more competition and we hope to take them done this time,” said captain Ameya Bakshi.
