Tosa West students often make or create Tiktok videos during school hours. Many students hope that by posting their videos, they might blow up and get high numbers of likes and gain followers. Other students just use tiktok to view videos, relax, and often let hours fly by while scrolling on the app.
“Tiktok opens me to multiple points of views that I normally wouldn’t see. Compared to the news, for example, I get personal connections with people that have different experiences than I do, which opens me to a lot of knowledge that I normally wouldn’t see,” said senior Jaylen Adams-Jinnings
For other students, Tiktok is simply just a place to spend some time in between more important things whether that be work, school, or in a public setting.
“I’d say it’s definitely a pastime. If I’m bored, I go on Tiktok to kind of just sit there and scroll. If I’m being for real, I’m more of an Instagram Reel type of guy,” said junior Elian Albiter.
Some students post videos on their Tiktok profiles in hopes of becoming more popular on the platform and gaining more followers.
“I think I have about 800 followers,” said senior Tarion Cunningham.
However, students also agree that Tiktok is often just something to do when they are bored, and want to decompress.
“It does not affect my daily life. I’m on it probably an hour a day, and I just watch it when I get bored,” said Cunningham.
Other students report that they are more addicted to TikTok and will even admit that they spend too much time on the app. They even explained they were nervous when Tiktok was banned from the US for a few hours and said it was the worst hours of their lives.
“I wake up and check my phone for TikTok. It’s very addicting, and I can’t stay off of it. When it was banned I had a hard couple of hours,” said junior Jaliyah Chappell.
“It’s an awesome app…TikTok makes your day go by, especially if you’re bored either in school, work, etc, and you just make time to go by because you keep scrolling, and scrolling, scrolling till you find something to laugh at. But it also messes you up and distracts you.,” said junior Janeya Body
Whether in a public setting or just in the Tosa West hallways people everywhere make TikToks that is a trend now but also TikTok is used for watching and enjoying short videos. TikTok can be harmful to students if used in the wrong way but other than that TikTok is a harmless Social-Media platform that billions of people use. Making TikToks is just a thing that everyday TikTokers do and that is fine, there is nothing wrong with that.
