BOTTOM LINE: After a loss of 11 seniors from the past season, the team had to step up to account for the departed teammates. Along with the leaving players, Lucy Deutsch (knee injury) and Kira Fax (APPSE) were out, leaving young players to make the step up covering vital positions. A corner kick in the first half led to a goal for Brookfield East. This would end up being the only point on the board after strong defensive efforts in the second half.

HIGHLIGHTS: 

• Brookfield east scored with an impressive corner kick without any touches in the first half
• Sophomore goalie Maive McCarthy filled in for Kira Fax on goal and made a series of saves that kept the team in contention
• The backline held strong in the second half with Dylan, Sam and Captains Nora and Evelyn
• The Trojans had a near goal on a corner kick with a deflection followed by a shot just wide by Junior Amanda Neikirk

WHAT’S NEXT?: Saturday, April 12 the girls face Catholic Memorial at home, A team that the Trojans have competed closely with in previous years.

PLAYER’S THOUGHT: “The work rate and competitiveness was there from every single player who saw the field. I was especially proud of all the new girls who stepped up and came to compete at a varsity level. Our whole team showed a lot of grit, and we were able to compete with an opponent that normally comes out with a much bigger lead than they had last night.”…“We can definitely improve on our simplicity on the ball and working forward from the back line, Maive McCarthy did a great job in goal with a back line that felt really strong, and I felt really comfortable with the new lineup that we had back there. Overall, our new coach Lana, has done a really good job of motivating us and making us feel confident against our difficult conference opponents” said Junior Evelyn Davis

OUR THOUGHTS:  This was a  tough loss to start the season but promise was shown. The trojans kept up with the competitive Brookfield East, a team that has been strong against us in previous years. We look forward to a competitive season from the our Girls Soccer program!
