The Wauwatosa West and Wausau East boys will compete in the State Semifinals at the Kohl Center on Friday, March 21st. The West boys won 71-59 against Mount Horeb in the Sectional Finals, and the Wausau East boys won 82-45 against West Salem.
The game will tip off at 3:45 PM, on Friday.
Expectations were always high for the West boys. They have had the confidence all year that they were going to go far.
“In the beginning of the season, I did think that we were going to go this far because we were projected to go up to state, and win it all. We started off 8-0 so with those expectations we were going to go far.” Said Junior Messiah Chambers.
The Trojans are coming off a tough battle against Mount Horeb resulting in a 71-59 Trojan win. Top performer Jalen Brown finished with 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Jake Hansen and Matthew Kloskey finished with 14 points.
The atmosphere was electric at the Sectional Final game, and the players definitely played off of that.
“I try to feed off the energy, and use it as fuel to play hard and make plays. Also just getting in the right mindset, knowing that you put in the work and prepared for this moment.” Said Senior Jake Hansen.
The Wausau East boys are coming off a blowout victory 82-45 against West Salem. Jesse Napgezek was the top performer finishing with 38 points, 8 steals, and 5 blocks. You can learn more about the team at Wissports.net
The Trojans are a 2 seed in the tournament and the Lumberjacks are a 3 seed. The winner of this game will advance to the championship on Saturday. They will play the winner of 1 seed Racine Park and 4 seed Cedarburg.
That win gave Tosa West some history going to state for the first time in school history.
“Our motivation mostly comes from our will just to not lose. Our coach tells us that the true reward of winning is not feeling that pain of losing. That has stuck with us all year and we’re going to continue our run and hopefully make some more Tosa West history.” Said Junior David Hennings
