On Friday night, September 22, the Tosa West Trojan football team won 15-14 against the Pewaukee Pirates. The game was tense, with a winning touchdown and field goal happening in the last quarter of the game. “Yeah, I feel freaking amazing right now. This is definitely one of the top 10 days of my life,” says quarterback Ben Kortbein. “ I’m not surprised that we won at all, I’m actually surprised we didn’t win by more, even coming out here without a better team. I’m surprised it wasn’t like seven to zero.”
The team was able to overcome the challenge of having several key players out due to injury, and won despite the Pewaukee Pirates being the projected winners.
“I’m excited. I’m very happy for our guys, they deserve this,” says coach Nick Vitale. “I don’t think any week we’re surprised if we win. We just haven’t been able to put a full game together. We’ve been having a lot of injuries right now. We had a lot of guys step up and fill those roles, so I’m really proud of them.”
The football game marked the end of homecoming spirit week, with the dance being held Saturday night, September 23.
