Track meets can last for 5 hours, but an individual athlete may compete for only a few minutes. One of the challenges facing athletes is staying energized and focused on their events. Music can play an important role for athletes to keep focused on their goals.

Students have several different songs they enjoy listening to, a lot of these students are really excited about competing at lacrosse and bonding with their teammates. We talked to Tosa West track athletes who qualified for WIAA state track and field to find out what songs are getting the team locked in. This list contains songs that Tosa West athletes use to stay focused.
Senior Tarion Cunningham
Sprinter
Event: 4 X 200
Hype Song: He listens to “Y not?” by Lucki. Cunningham says he enjoys listening to this artist because “the beat goes hard” and keeps him locked in.
Why he likes it: “The vibe is great, the music helps me build up my self-confidence before going against a good team,” said Cunningham.
Freshman Mackenzie Sanders
Sprinter
Event: 4×200, 4×100, 4×400
Hype Song: Freshman Mackenzie Sanders is a hurdler and 400 runner who attended the Adidas National Track Meet. She says her favorite song is “Go get it” by Mary Mary.
Why she likes it: “I like it because it is very uplifting and has affirmations in the song and a go get it mentality. Which is important to me right before my race because I feel like it lifts up my energy,” said Sanders. The genre is gospel music and she best listens to this song while she warms up.
Sophomore Jeremiah Baxter

Event: 4×100,
Hype Song: Sophomore Jeremiah Baxter who will be competing in the 4×100 relay, favorite song he enjoys locking into is “Sometimes” by Faye Webster.
Why he likes it: “I listen to it because she’s my favorite artist and its my favorite song because it keeps me relaxed before my race, clears my brain from the outer stressors”
