What sport do you play and how long have you been playing?
I primarily play baseball but I used to play basketball. I’ve been playing baseball since I was four, so around 13 years.
What inspired you to start playing baseball?
Well, of course my mom got me into it. My mom played d1 softball, and she encouraged me to start T-ball. That’s kind of where the whole journey took off.
Do you have a Pre game routine?
Yes, I do. I get my I carbs up a lot before games. So I usually eat lots of bread, I like to drink as much water as possible before the games, so hopefully I won’t cramp. Then I like to say a little prayer before games, which helps me get in the mood so I’m fully prepped for whats ahead.
What are you most excited for with the upcoming season?
Our team’s gonna be very exciting this year. I’m excited to play with a bunch of new teammates for the highschool team, Its always an adjustment to try to work with people you’ve never worked with before.
I also play summer ball, with that I’m excited to travel to new places this year, lots of places this year that I haven’t gone. I’m excited to see what they’re all about.
What’s the biggest challenge that you face as an athlete?
Mental Blocks, for sure, especially with baseball. Its all about the mindset, So if you’re not in the zone and you’re not prepared to hit a baseball field, it’ll be challenging. I’ve definitely encountered that before, but I’ve gotten over those humps.
Have you learned any life lessons from being a part of a team?
Being patient is always a virtue. Sometimes you and your teammates attempt to communicate and it doesn’t work, or you just don’t communicate at all, managing that is a skill that I’ve gained because of baseball. That carries over into life in general, the patience i’ve gained because of baseball has been very beneficial.
It’s always best to be patient with your teammates and peers.
How do you manage your time between school and sports?
Our team has practice three times a week for summer ball, but I usually try and get in at least five times, so two times by myself, and the team practices. I always set alarms to manage my time so right after school, I typically get a snack, then I’ll head off to either the gym or the facility, get some work in, and then try to sleep around seven hours a day at least. I do my homework in between around 6:30 and 8:30 and I’m in bed by 9:00
How has baseball shaped you as a person,?
I’ve learned to control my emotions. I used to be very emotional person when we play baseball, I would get angry when I wasn’t doing well and things like that. So really learned how to regulate my emotions and be a far more patient person.
Usually during baseball games, baseball practices, things get a little chirpy, back and forth between Teams. I don’t really believe in in chirping. I believe in fighting, I like to prove stuff through actions on the field, rather than going back and forth and between dugouts.
Do have an Idea of what your future post high school or post college?
I’m very interested in business. So I was thinking of majoring either in accounting or finance and going into one of those roles in the future as a career. One of the things I could do that could be related to baseball is I could work with a major league team, a minor league team, or even high school, and be an accountant, managing their funds, stuff like that. I could possibly do it for other sports as well. It’s not necessarily what I’m gonna do, but it’s something I could do.
