What is your role here in the West?
Besides being a source of complete joy for my department, I teach Ap lang and comp, creative writing, English 10, and I’m also the English department chair. I’m on the curriculum council and school’s leadership team. So I try to help out with, you know, making sure that everyone has a common goal, and that I help to carry it out, and that I believe in the school’s mission and vision. I try to be an overall helpful human.
What is your favorite class to teach here in the West?
Well, I truly love teaching AP Lang and comp. It’s a course where I think kids have an opportunity to think outside of the box and develop their own opinion on things, and the level of the stuff they´re reading is so interesting and it keeps me interested.
What clubs do you run here in the West?
I run FSU, which is feminist Student Union this year, and we’re really excited, actually, because we’re going to the Milwaukee diaper mission on the 24th so it should be really fun.
Do you want to be involved in more extracurricular activities?
I would love to, but I don’t think I have the time between my own family and committees at district office and responsibilities here, I would probably have a hard time finding that time.
What is one thing you would change at West?
One thing I would change at West is the music. I would love music playing during passing time, because it gives such a good vibe and it makes everybody super happy.
Are the rumors true? Are you interested in becoming the West principal?
Interesting, so I do hope sometime in my future, I just finished my licenses to pursue admin work. So I do hope at some point that I have the opportunity to become a leader in a school or at West, so at some point, yes.
What is your overall goal for this school?
I firmly believe that Tosa West can be an incredible example of what a diverse and successful school looks like. I think the students are behind it. I think the staff are behind that movement. And my hopes and dreams for West is that we become known throughout Wisconsin as a school that has kids from all over, right, all over different walks of life, socio-economic situations, and that all students are achieving.
