Last Season: The Track Team sent boys to state for three events: 800 – 13th place, 4×100 – 13th place, and 4×400 – 21st place. The girls went to state for six events: Long Jump – 12th, Shot Put – 4th, Discus – 24th, 4×100 – 15th, 4×200 – 13th, and 4×400 14th. Two school records were broken: Olivia Schmidt in the Long Jump, beating the old record by almost a foot with 18’5.25, and Kiera Fax, who broke the Shot Put record with 41’9.
Outlook: The track team has big expectations this season “The goal is to qualify more athletes and podium athletes at the state. We have a ton of talent on both teams, getting our athletes to be consistent and improving each meet.” says Head Coach Good.
The program’s coaching will help the team meet their high expectations, Junior Marshall Ellifson says, “I think the strength is the coaching. We have a lot of coaches for whatever event you want to do who know what they’re talking about are quality and will help you become elite.”
Coaches can only help athletes so much to improve themselves during the off-season, it’s up to the athletes themselves to put in the work to see improvements.
“During the off-season, I’ve been running every day and weight training at SAS (Strength, Agility, and Speed)” says Senior Abbey Tank who aims to finish her last season strong “One of my goals for this season is to improve my times in my events, especially in the 1600 and 3200. I also would love for our team to become even more unified this year, and make sure we’re all supporting and cheering each other on at meets.”
“Something that excites me is that everyone has the chance to get better, get a fresh start to practice, and put in the work. everyone gets a shot to show everyone how much potential they have if you just put in the work” says Ellifson.
