The Stars Co-op (24-3) hockey team will face Edgewood High School (21-6) for the State semi-final game at the Legacy20 Arena in Middleton, Wis on Friday March 7th at 10:00am.
The winner of the game will play in the final game against either #2 Wausau West (21-6) or. #3 Notre Dame (18-8) on Saturday, March 8th at 7 p.m.
Tosa West senior defensive man Preston Slater and goalie junior Brady Ferrell are the two Tosa West players on the Stars Co-ap team.
Last year, the Stars Co-op hockey team lost in the state championship game to Notre Dame High School in Green Bay 3 – 1.
Slater believes the team has been focused in practice on the state tournament for the entire season.
“We have been practicing like we’re losing, like we’re losing in the final game.” said Slater
Slater has confidence in the work and dedication of the team this season.
¨I feel like it’s really just ourselves. I feel like it’s our game to kind of lose. I feel like we’re the best team by far in this tournament. So we just got to prove it.¨ said Slater
The team consists of players from Wauwatosa West and Wauwatosa East, Brookfield East and Brookfield Central and Sussex Hamilton and Menomonee Falls. Teamwork and cohesiveness around the ice is nonnegotiable for a team that competes with such great talent.
In preparation for the state competition all members of the team bleached their hair.
¨It was a team commitment, and as a team commitment, we all dyed our hair¨. The hair dying tradition began when the team made the state competition last year.
After last year’s loss to Notre Dame in the final, the team decided to revise their training commitment and collective goal.
“I feel like it woke us up, having that same group coming back this year, so we’re coming back for revenge. We just need to play as ourselves last year again.”
With heavy stakes on the line for The Stars, this will be a very big game for Preston and his other seniors on the team.B e there to support and watch your fellow classmates give it their all to win the big games.
