How did you develop your work ethic in your sport?
If you’re playing a sport, you want to do well in it, and you’ll do anything it takes to do well, no matter if it’s boring or if it’s fun, just do your hardest and stay disciplined.
And how do you stay motivated during tough practices or games?
Just view it as an outcome. For example if it’s a tie game, or if it’s like a really important moment of the game, practice like you’re in that specific situation and do everything with a purpose. Because my coach always preaches how we perform in practice is how we’re going to perform in the real game.
And how do you cope with setbacks like losing an important game?
You know you win some and lose some. I use times like this to reflect. I just try to find myself, just know that this is a setback but sometimes you just have to have a bigger comeback.
What was a moment that you felt like giving up? And how did you push through?
When one of my coaches passe. Every time I don’t feel like doing something even out of hockey I just push myself, he was a very motivational person. By just doing anything that he would want me to do, and I think that’s a really good way to come back from the loss.
What do you enjoy the most about playing your sport?
Building relationships with your teammates, going out everyday working hard with your teammates, forming lifelong bonds is more than the game to me. I enjoy seeing my teammates improve throughout the season.
What lessons have you learned being a part of the team?
You have to work as a team and not be selfish. Especially when playing hockey everyone needs to be on the same page, communicate and take criticism to improve on yourself to help the team.
What is the best advice a teammate or coach has given you?
My youth coach preached “What you give to the game, the game will give back to you” during every workout
What do you think makes a good teammate and how do you embody that?
Being myself and reading the room,it doesn’t change in any situation, be yourself and approach anyone with a positive attitude no matter how you’re feeling.
What advice would you give to younger athletes starting out?
Have confidence in your self and know your abilities. Also one mistake or game you have to always look forward and work to only make yourself better .
What do you hope to accomplish?
In this moment, as a senior in high school, my focus is to win a state championship. Going to state last year and losing in the championship game was tough and to come back and win would be sweet. What I hope to do long-term, is to leave a mark on others through hockey.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years in sports or beyond?
I see myself still being around hockey either still playing or even being a scout one day.
