Wauwatosa West Girls Basketball Team defeats West Allis Nathan Hale in a regular season meeting 42 – 40.

The bottom line | The Trojans started strong, keeping the score even until the Huskies went on a run to halftime. After halftime, the Trojans came back and tied the score with seven and a half minutes left. The Trojans then took the lead, winning 42-40. 

Highlights | 

• Sophomore Brook Barnes scored all of the points for the Trojans in the first half.
• Junior Dani Martinez scored 15 points in the second half, fueling their win.
• Freshman Vivian Townsend hit two clutch free throws to extend the lead to four with less than a minute to go

What’s next | The Wauwatosa West Girls varsity team has a home conference game vs. Divine Savior Holy Angels on Thursday, January 9 at 7 pm.

“It was intense, it’s always a battle when we play Nathan Hale, they always come out, it’s always a war. Both teams played hard, glad to come out on top.” How will you keep the momentum from this game? “Just build off it, we did a lot of really good things in the second half, things we can build off of, attacking the basket, things that we’ve worked on in practice, they started to come through in the second half.”

Our thoughts | The first half was slow for the Trojans with low scoring. The MVP for the game was Dani Martinez who rallied the team coming out of halftime.
