Junior’s and Freshmen were victorious in Tosa West’s annual homecoming Powder Puff football game held on Tuesday, October 1st. The Sophomores/Seniors team defeated the Junior/Freshman team 7-0.
The Senior/Sophomore team was especially undersized when compared to previous years. The only thing they had going for them was their run game. In the end, the Juniors and Freshman were victorious. Junior Gigi Clementi intercepted the ball from sophomore Annie O’Tool and ran it in for the sole touchdown and sole catch of the game.
“I wanted to be a coach to win but we didn’t come through tonight, I take full blame for that. I feel like we did not get the girls ready enough,” said Senior coach Brandon Collins.
There was much excitement on both sides before the game. Senior coach Brecker Drews stepped over a junior and flexed after she had been knocked to the ground which generated much controversy. Mr. Benes was very upset and nearly kicked him off the field. Brecker’s actions were reflected in players’ opinions after the game.
“I think we really did a good job. I think we had a problem with our offensive coaches, except for Brandon, he rocked. The O-line was great and I wish we would’ve won but that’s okay,” said Senior Claire Sanfelippo.
One of the highlights of the game happened during the first Senior drive of the game. When a Senior/Sophomore pass was intercepted by Junior Gigi Clementi who returned the ball for a touchdown.
“Probably the pick 6 we threw. That was probably the most exciting part of the game,” Senior coach Adam Onopa stated when prompted with what his favorite part of the game was.
There were a few hundred people in the bleachers following the game. The vibe in the bleachers was much more upbeat. The Tosa West student body loves attending events like powderpuff. Students of all ages were in attendance cheering on their friends.
“My favorite part of the game was just watching everyone play and have fun!” said Senior Tehana Titus.
