New Athletic Assistant at Wauwatosa West
February 2, 2022
Wauwatosa West High School has a new athletic assistant in the school activities office that started this January.
Keegan Schrems is no stranger to Tosa West. He graduated from Tosa West in 2016 and his mother, Lisa Schrems, has been an administrative assistant in the main office since 2010.
The activities office manages all athletic and non-athletic activities in the school. This includes collecting forms and fees for non-athletic activities as well as scheduling transportation for athletic teams.
Schrems replaces Kari Church who left in December of 2021. Church replaced Christi Toye who had been in the position since February of 2014 but was then promoted to administrative assistant by West Principal Ebony Grice in August of 2021.
Schrems graduated from Tosa West in 2016 and majored in Sports Management at University of Minnesota Mankato.
“I knew pretty early in my high school career that I wanted to be in sports. I wanted to be involved in sports in some way. I started looking into how you can be around.. sport(s) or what you can do to be around athletics and activities” Schrems said.
One of the most difficult things is getting up to speed on the new systems that manage school sports and other activities.
“I don’t necessarily know how they work at West or how we use them and what systems and styles we use. I was in a meeting with Christie Toye and she was kind of helping me just learn the systems and get involved in the system,” he said.
Despite the challenges, Schrems finds the experience of coming back to his old school refreshing.
“I think the coolest thing is having… the keys. I was a student here and you can’t go into different areas. I couldn’t go into the gym without supervision or the weight room or the teachers lounges…now I have the ability…to go to the teachers lounge.”
