Trojan Players Announce Spring Musical and Audition Schedule
January 21, 2021
The Trojan Player’s spring musical will be Showtune, a one act musical celebrating the life and music of Jerry Herman. Herman was an influential composer known for broadway musical theater, and composed several hit musicals such as Hello, Dolly!.
Auditions will take place the first week of February and the show will open in April. As with their fall production, the Trojan Players will remain socially distanced and masked.
There will be 20 total actors in the show, with both vocal and dance auditions. This show allows for a lot of creativity and showcases the actors’ performances.
Showtune is a collection of songs by Jerry Herman that are grouped into scenes. Put together by Paul Gilger in 2003, it includes works from Mame, La Cage Aux Folles, Mack & Mabel and Hello, Dolly!. Herman not only composed award-winning music, he also broke boundaries in 1983 with the award-winning La Cage Aux Folles. This musical was one of the first broadway musicals to center around a gay couple.
Herman died in 2019, survived by his partner Terry Marler.
