Tuesday, August 20th, Vice President Kamala Harris came to Milwaukee to rally more than 18,000 people at the Fiserv Forum, the same place former President Donald Trump accepted the nomination of Republican presidential nominee during the RNC last month. During the rally, there were a total of three speakers. Jaliah Jefferson, the Wisconsin Deputy Organizing Director, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Vice President Kamala Harris. The rally also live streamed the DNC roll call that made her the Democratic presidential nominee for the 2024 presidential election.
Attendees came from all over the country, with the majority coming from the Milwaukee area, but also some reaching as far as Buffalo, New York. While at the rally, multiple supporters expressed their feelings on Harris coming to Milwaukee, knowing Wisconsin’s history of being a swing state.
“I appreciate the fact that she’s prioritizing Milwaukee,” says supporter Noleta Fra, who is from the Milwaukee area. “I think that it says a lot to the Milwaukee people.” The rally attracted all different kinds of people, genders, and ages. For some people, they are not new to attending rallies, but for others, this is the first time they have attended one.
“This is like my first rally,” said supporter Mayson Wiegand “I’m just so excited. The energy here is like so amazing. Everyone is just like super nice,” expressed Wiegand. Wiegand explained how he has enjoyed seeing Harris in Wisconsin this year. “I think it’s amazing. She’s doing so well.”
After the roll call was over, the new Democratic presidential nominee came onto the stage with Democratic vice president nominee, Tim Walz, and spoke for 20 minutes. “With your help, we will win” stated Harris. During Harris’ speech, she spoke about different topics that she supports, such as accessible health care and child care. Harris also talked about how she wants to move forwards, and not backwards.
The Harris Walz rally was not the only big democratic event going on that night, as the DNC was just 80 miles away. Ms. Harris also obtained one of her biggest crowds yet in Milwaukee, proving success of this quick visit.
